PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure in which deviation of electrode is prevented and reduced, and has high adhesion at the side tube section. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp is constructed of a light-emitting part (2) in which a pair of electrodes (6, 7) are arranged opposed to each other and mercury of 0.15 mg/mm<SP>3</SP>or more is filled, and a side tube part (3) which extends at both ends of the light-emitting part and in which a part of the electrode is sealed and the electrode and a metal foil (8) are jointed. The above metal foil is shaped in approximately inverted W-shape in cross section and the electrode is welded arranged in the center valley portion of the inverted W-shape of the metal foil.
