PURPOSE: A searchlight for a vehicle is provided to improve the design beautifully and to prevent the searchlight cover from being covered with dust. CONSTITUTION: A searchlight for a vehicle includes a searchlight head(1), a bracket(13), a searchlight head opening and shutting unit, a position sensor, and a controller(9). The searchlight head turns right and left around a rotating shaft(10) and has a beam light(4) installed within, and rotates vertically by a vertical rotary motor(7). A horizontal rotary motor(17) turning the rotating shaft of the searchlight head horizontally is fixed to the bracket. The bracket has joint movement vertically to a side of a case(2). The searchlight head opening and shutting unit has screw motion vertically according to the driving force of an opening and shutting motor(22) and turns the free end of the bracket. The position sensor senses the forward position of the searchlight head. The controller outputs to the opening and shutting motor if having contact with the position sensor. The controller selectively outputs to the vertical and horizontal rotary motor, the opening and shutting motor, according to the horizontal and vertical rotary mode, the opening and shutting mode after opening mode.
