PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ferroelectric liquid crystal device whose scanning electrode driving IC is not broken even when a fluctuating power source is used. SOLUTION: A circuit which drives scanning electrodes of a ferroelectric liquid crystal panel is an integrated circuit, which is driven by fluctuating power sources VDD and VSS; and the pulse width of the driving voltage waveform of the scanning electrodes is narrower than the pulse widths of the fluctuating power sources VDD and VSS.
