FIELD: medicine, pulmonology. SUBSTANCE: patient should undergo echography of thoracic organs in different patient's positions according to standard topographoanatomical lines. One should evaluate localization, quantity and character of exudate, thickness of pleural leaves and overlaps, state of subpleural pulmonary department. At detecting homogeneous anechogenic - serous exudate or liquid purulent one nonhomogeneous due to multiple small signals located along the whole exudate's area one should detect indications for pleural puncture and conservative therapy. At availability of dense pus, coarse fibrinous commissurae in pleural cavity one should detect indications for thoracoscopic adhesiolysis and sanitation of pleural cavity.
