<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a buffer management method for a packet switch capable of increasing a rejection rate of packets of low priority and reducing the rejection rate of the packets of high priority at a high speed, and an optical packet switch using it. <P>SOLUTION: In constitution comprising a queue for temporarily keeping transmitted packets, the keeping means and a signal processor for successively taking out and processing the packets kept in the queue and provided with a threshold for a predetermined queue length and a predetermined abandonment level for the packet, the buffer management method comprises a procedure of successively putting all the packets to the queue while the queue length is shorter than the threshold, the procedure of changing a storing position from the position in the case of successively putting them in the queue depending on the predetermined packet abandonment level in the case that the queue length is equal to or longer than the threshold and the procedure of successively taking out and processing the packets kept in the queue. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
