HIGHLY EFFICIENT CODING METHOD AND APPARATUS OF IMAGE DATA

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly efficient coding method and a highly efficient coding apparatus for achieving adaptive coding in the coding of image data, and for reliably reproducing original interlace image data.

SOLUTION: The highly efficient coding apparatus for coding image data obtained by interlace scanning comprises: a means for generating interlace image data that are composed of the data of fields 1 and 2 from the image data, and non-interlace image data that are composed of the data of a frame; a means for coding either of the interlace image data or non-interlace image data; and a means for adding information for indicating that coded image data are either of interlace image data or non-interlace one for each of the coded image data. Based on the information for indicating one of the interlace imaged data and non-interlace image data, demodulation processing is made to the coded interlace image data or non-interlace image data.
