PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To find out a necessary image comparatively simply. SOLUTION: The representative images Ir, Is1 of ten frames are extracted out of a image database storing images of many frames. According to the image properties of the extracted representative images Ir, Is1, the images are distributively displayed on a coordinate area 23 which has a image property as coordinate axis. The image Is1 having property close to the required image out of the displayed representative pictures Ir, Is1 is designated. The images of ten frames having properties similar to the property of the designated picture Is1 are distributively displayed on the coordinate area which has a image property as coordinate axis. The axis of coordinates of the coordinate area displayed at the second time is made more detailed than that of coordinates of the coordinate area once displayed at the first time.
