PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively improve the performance of an information processor by a software prefetch instruction. SOLUTION: The information processor is equipped with at least a primary cache 22 and a secondary cache 23. In the software prefetch instruction, an indication bit is provided which can indicate a cache layer transferring operand data or/and the transfer amount of the operand data. When block data or line data are transferred, necessary data are transferred to the cache on the basis of the indication bit in the software prefetch instruction. Consequently, the performance of the information processor can be improved by effectively using the software prefetch instruction. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
