PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for display which can reduce a moving picture pseudo-outline without increasing the number of subfields nor lowering gradation display capability. SOLUTION: The display device is characterized by that when N subfields SF1, SF2,..., SFN are weighted corresponding to gradations to have smaller weighting quantities in the order or the same weighting quantity, the subfields include at least one subfield SFM (M: a natural number of 2 to N) whose weighting quantity has a larger difference than that of the sum of weight quantities of the subfields SF1 to SF(M-1), compared with the weighting quantity of the SF1 and also includes at least one SFL (L: a natural integer larger than M and less than N) whose weighting quantity has a smaller difference than that between the sum of the SFL to SF(L-1) and that of the SF1, compared with the weighting quantity of the SF1.
