摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display device which hardly generates a pseudo- color or pseudo-outline at a dark part even when a picture which is dark on the whole is displayed. <P>SOLUTION: The device has a PDP module 6, a reverse gamma correcting circuit 5 which generates (M+&alpha;)-bit video data by making reverse gamma correction of M-bit video data, a multiplier 21 which multiplies the output of the circuit 5 by a multiplication coefficient (n), a peak luminance detecting circuit 22 which finds the peak luminance Y<SB>p</SB>of the video data outputted from the reverse gamma correcting circuit 5 in each vertical scanning period, and a retention pulse frequency control circuit 23 which controls the retention pulse frequency of the PDP module 6. The multiplier 21 determines the multiplication coefficient (n) according to the peak luminance Y<SB>p</SB>. The reverse gamma correcting circuit 5 determines the value of &alpha; according to the multiplication coefficient (n). The multiplier 2 outputs the high-order M-bit data of the video data having been multiplied by the multiplication coefficient (n) and the retention pulse frequency control circuit 23 multiplies the retention pulse frequency by 1/n. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
