PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a caller ID on an external terminal connected to communication equipment. SOLUTION: The external terminal connected to an equipment main body is connected to an outside line at a normal time. Then, when detecting a car signal, while the external terminal performs prescribed operation for receiving the caller ID in response to the car signal, a modem monitors the outside line without connecting the outside line with the equipment main body and receives the caller ID. When the external terminal completes the reception of the caller ID and opens the outside line, a normal calling signal is received from the outside line to allow the speech part of the equipment main body to ring and the external terminal to ring. In addition, when the external terminal does not respond to the car signal the prescribed number of times, the equipment main body receives the caller ID. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
