PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a key unit causing no trouble that a key top creeps under the key window frame of the casing of a portable telephone and the like when depressing a key, to provide a key unit capable of preventing floating of a key top and interference of movement between keys, in a key board with a narrow pitch for which a key window frame can not be adopted, and to provide a new thinly structured key unit wherein a double structure formed by superimposing a light guiding plate as a separate part is eliminated. SOLUTION: This key unit has a hard base 10 comprising a translucent hard resin plate and having a through hole 1 in its face, a key pad 11 formed from a translucent rubber-like elastic film so as to cover the through hole 1 in the hard base 10, a switch pressing protrusion 12 integrally formed with the key pad 11 on one face of the key pad 11, which fronts on the through hole 1, and a key top 15 of a translucent hard resin provided at a position on the other face of the key pad 11, which corresponds to the switch pressing protrusion 12.
