PURPOSE: A method for detecting a solidification end point and determining an optimum amount of reduction is provided to obtain an optimum amount of reduction by measuring reaction force applied in a roll direction on a strip. CONSTITUTION: A pressure meter is installed at a segment upper roll(20) of continuous casting equipment in the vicinity of a solidification end point. Reaction applied to the segment upper roll from a strip(4) in the length direction of the strip(4) is measured by using the pressure meter(6). Reaction force data are analyzed by a data analyzer(8). The solidification end point is determined when reaction force is uniformly detected lengthwise the segment upper roll(20). A hydraulic cylinder is moved down to press the segment upper roll(20) after the solidification end point is determined.
