PURPOSE: A battery voltage detection circuit is provided to prevent life shortening of battery by significantly reducing natural discharge of battery, while reducing power consumption. CONSTITUTION: A battery voltage detection circuit comprises voltage divider resistance(R1,R2) for detecting voltages at both ends of a portable battery(BAT); a comparator(COMP) for comparing the voltage detected by the voltage divider resistance, with a reference voltage; a delay circuit(20) which operates after being delayed for a predetermined time period in accordance with the signal output from the comparator; a protection circuit(21) for protecting the battery through the delay circuit; and a switching control unit(22) for switching on/off the voltage detection operation of the voltage divider resistance. The switching control unit includes a switch and a control circuit(23) for controlling operation of the switch, wherein the switch is connected in serial to the voltage divider resistance.
