PURPOSE: A method for registering a position of a mobile terminal in a mobile communication system is provided to perform position registration for the mobile terminal if a decided mobile direction and a mobile distance satisfy a specific condition, and to store a current mobile direction, thereby reducing paging load when a receiving call arrives. CONSTITUTION: When power is initially supplied, a mobile communication system performs distance reference position registration(S201). If a mobile terminal enters a new base station(S202), the system decides whether a mobile distance arrives at a distance threshold value(S203). If the mobile distance dose not exceed the threshold value, the system decides whether a mobile direction is changed(S204). If so, the system decides whether a current mobile direction is the same as an opposite direction of the mobile direction finally performing position registration(S205). If so, the system decides whether current positions are the same as finally position-registered positions(S206). If so, the system performs the position registration(S207).
