Tropane-chelator and tropane-chelate conjugates (I) are new. Tropane-chelator and tropane-chelate conjugates (I) are new. X = a metal chelator or metal chelate attached (in)directly to carbon 6 or 7 or to carbons 6 and 7, where carbons 6 and 7 are optionally joined; R<1> = optionally halogenated 1-6C alkyl or alkenyl or an ester group; R<2> = COOZ; Z = H or optionally halogenated 1-6C alkyl; R<3> = Ar, Ar(1-6C)alkyl, Ar(2-6C)alkenyl, benzoate or oxo, and Ar = phenyl optionally substituted by halo, alkyl or alkoxy. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a chelation product comprising (I) and a metal or metal complex; (2) preparation of (I); (3) production of the chelation product by preparing a compound (I) as in (2) and reacting it with a metal or metal complex, and (4) a diagnostic kit comprising (I).
