PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk recording and reproducing device that employs an optical pickup to apply recording/reproduction of a signal to/from a disk. SOLUTION: The optical disk recording and reproducing device configured such that the recording and reproducing device reads a recording signal from a buffer RAM 10 once storing the recording signal outputted from a host device to record the signal to the disk 1, interrupts the recording of the signal to the disk 1 when the amount of the signal stored in the buffer RAM 10 is deficient while recording the signal to the disk 1, and restarts the recording of the signal to the disk 1 when the amount of the signal stored in the buffer RAM 10 reaches a prescribed amount, revises an idle capacity used to control the propriety of the writing of the recording signal to the buffer RAM 10 when the recording is interrupted.
