PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for duplex communication such as a cable modem which is to be interfaced with a plurality of home electronic appliances such as external memory devices. SOLUTION: This communication apparatus has a first interface circuit which transfers data between a host device and a communication network, and a second interface circuit which transfers the data between the external memory device or a home electronic product having a memory device and the host device.
