PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect atmospheric pressure in peripheral environment of an internal combustion engine without using an atmospheric sensor. SOLUTION: In this detection device, intake pressure PMi [mmHg] in a crank angle position in each 30 [°CA (Crank Angle)] after a start of the internal combustion engine 1 is detected, and the intake pressure PMi is smoothed according to a transition state and is found as the atmospheric pressure. When a differenceΔPM between a maximum value PMMAX and a minimum value PMMIN of the plurality of intake pressures PMi is small within a prescribed value, the plurality of intake pressure PMi are smoothed. By sampling in the crank angle positions a plurality of times, the atmospheric pressure when the intake pressure PMi is stable is obtained.
