PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading system in which suitable processing of image data can be performed by embedding a variety of information as electronic watermarks in the image data. SOLUTION: In the image reader, a user ID (X) is inputted as the log-in information of a user who reads an original (S101), and the user ID (X) is embedded in the image data created from the data of the original as the electronic watermark (S109) and transmitted to a PC. In the PC where the image data are received, the user ID (X) is read out of the relevant image data. Only when the read user ID (X) is matched with the user ID of a user who instructs printing processing of the relevant image data, the print of the relevant image data is instructed from the PC. Thus, printing processing of the image data is permitted only to the user who reads the relevant image data. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
