The invention relates to a ball and socket joint for a motor vehicle, especially for the chassis of a motor vehicle. Said ball and socket joint comprises a housing (4) which is provided with a joint opening (6), and a ball pivot (3) consisting of a ball (1) and a journal (2). Said ball pivot is mounted in the housing (4) in such a way that it can rotate and pivot by means of its ball (1), and the journal (2) of the ball pivot protrudes through the joint opening (6) out of the housing (4). A separate closing element (10) is fixed to the housing (4) of the ball and socket joint, said closing element at least partially closing an assembly opening (9) provided in the housing. At least one electronic component (11) is arranged on said closing element.
