The shut-off valve has a sealing piston movable in the valve casing (11), and by one end interacting with a valve seat (4) and by the other end connected via a spindle (6) to a handwheel (7) equipped with a hand grip (8). The handgrip on the upper side (9) has an exchangeable cover plate (10) provided with a marking. The handgrip and cover plate in plan view each have the same contour. The handwheel in a lower region has a shank (21) which has the same width as a tubular form bearing section (11a) of the valve casing. An independent claim is included for a handwheel for a shut-off valve and which is provided with a recess (19) in which fits an exchangeable cover plate.
