A face feature is extracted by a face feature extracting section (121), and a reliability index is extracted by a reliability extracting section (122) to output it as face meta−data. Information such as on a parameter associated with the posterior distribution of when the reliability index of face meta−data is obtained is estimated by using the reliability index by a distribution estimating section (141). The similarity of the features is calculated by a distance calculating section (142). Thus, the precision of face recognition is improved, and practical face matching can be conducted.
