The machine has a guide (5) to pass a strap around a product, e.g. a stack of magazines, a transporter (3) to move the stack to the guide, and a fastener to fix the strap around the stack. The guide is coupled to an advance device (6), e.g. a lifting device, to move it between a lowered working position, and a raised rest position, which permits the stack to be supplied, and the strapped stack to be removed. The lifting device has a pneumatic cylinder, and a light barrier to control automatic movement of the guide between positions.
