An anti-theft device for a car has a portable code transmitter (1) a measuring unit which measures a physical quantity that reproduces a characteristic operating state of the car and is connected electrically with a transmitter unit (2). The device also has a transmitter unit with which an electrical comparison signal is transmitted to the receiver unit in which is contained the measured information about the operating state; - a vehicle-side receiver unit (4) for the reception of the electrical comparison signal; - a vehicle-side control and evaluation unit (5) which is connected electrically with the receiver unit and enables a usage of the vehicle in case the measured value of the physical quantity agrees with a set point value.
