A method for producing a magnetically anisotropic magnet involving a step of cooling a melt of rare earth element-iron-boron alloy, to thereby prepare a base alloy, and a step of subjecting the base alloy to a HDDR treatment, wherein the step of preparing a base alloy comprises cooling the melt of the alloy through contacting the melt with a cooling member, to thereby form a solidification alloy layer which comprises a plurality of R2Fe14B type crystals (R is at least one element selected from the group consisting of rare earth elements and yttrium) having phases rich in a rare earth element dispersed therein.
