摘要 Fluid recovered is separated continuously and passed via a buffer reservoir through a filter into a preferably air-free flexible container with small particles. During filling its volume alters. The particles selectively adsorb components to be removed. Suction or applied pressure removes the particles by filtration after a set time. The fluid is returned to the patient via a filter and further reservoir. Particles remain in the casing, or are removed for external cleaning followed by their return or replacement. Preferred Features: Protein-free blood components are separated (hemofiltration) or only cellular components are retained (plasma separation). Particles, comprising e.g. polymers, cellulosics or activated carbon have restricted size distribution, the smallest particle size exceeding the greatest pore diameter of the separation membrane. Particle density, allowing for air inclusions, is comparable to that of the fluid to be cleaned, promoting neutral or positive buoyancy. Particles are removed from or supplied into the adsorber casing through a separate opening, by suction or pressure on the flexible outer wall. Control of influx or efflux velocity separates the particles and flushes the filter. For all operations, suitable pressures are applied, using valved pipework. Pressure applied is hydrostatic, aerostatic or mechanical.
