Two vertical elements (2) are fitted with two bar-shaped elements (6) positioned in front of them and serving as carrying elements for several vertically movable shelves (3, 4, 5) kept at a distance by sleeves (7) enveloping the bars (6). The height adjustable table (9) can be moved under the lowest shelf (3) carrying the monitor (8) of a computer, when not used separately as a conference table. The shelves (3, 4, 5) can be lifted or lowered with the mechanism integrated in the table (9) and secured at the required height with a locking unit assembled of a cylindrical component wedged in between the vertical bar (6) and a clamping element.
