An hydraulic pump (3) driven by, e.g. a diesel motor (2) supplies an hydraulic motor (5) via two pressure lines (4a,4b). In each line a seat type pressure control valve (10a,10b) is fitted with plungers spring loaded to close the valves across reverse flow of fluid from the hydraulic motor during braking. Solenoid (40) operated slide valves (20a,20b) admit pressurized fluid to the cylinders (15a,15b) enclosing the springs to control the movement of the plungers against the reverse flow pressure.
