PURPOSE: Provided is a method for manufacturing diphenylmethyl 7 beta-phenylacetamido-3-(1-halogen ethenyl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylate-1-oxide useful as an intermediate of cephalosporin antibiotics. CONSTITUTION: A method for manufacturing diphenylmethyl 7 beta-phenylacetamido-3-(1-halogen ethenyl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylate-1-oxide useful as an intermediate of cephalosporin antibiotics is characterized by reacting diphenylmethyl 7 beta-phenylacetamido-3-(1-halogen ethenyl)-2-cephem-4-carboxylate of the formula(II) with peracetate or H2O2 in inactive organic solvent, followed by purification.
