A mobile telephone apparatus exhibiting a high reception sensibility during a state in which the apparatus is not in synchronism with a base station because of a power-on time, a blind spot or the like. During a state in which the apparatus is not in synchronism with a base station, a plurality of antennas (1,2) are alternately switched and activated a predetermined number of times per a predetermined time period in accordance with the number of perch channels, and thereafter, one of these antennas which received levels the average of which was larger than that of the levels received by the other is used as, what is called, an antenna opening a control channel.
