An accessory (12) for a motor vehicle (10) includes a first pair of railway wheels (14) which is adapted to be mounted near the front wheels (16) of a motor vehicle and a second pair of railway wheels (18) which is adapted to be mounted near the rear wheels (20) of the vehicle. The accessory further includes a first (22) and second (27) elevating means for moving the first and second pairs, respectively, of railway wheels initially into engagement with a railway track and thereafter further displacing the first and second pairs of railway wheels so as to elevate the vehicle onto the pairs of railway wheels to a position wherein the wheels of the vehicle are clear of the ground, and a transmission means(24).
