Provided are a process for preparing beta-D-ribofuranose derivatives, which are useful as an intermediate for the preparation of ribavirin. The process can be performed under a mild condition, in the presence of a catalyst selected from the group consisting of methanesulfonic acid, benzenesulfonic acid and p-toluenesulfonic acid.
