<p>A liquid crystal display cell having a quick response, a large viewing angle, a bistable memory capability, a high contrast, and adaptability to a large-size screen display. A liquid crystal display cell has a structure in which transparent electrode film, a transparent coating film, and an alignment film are formed in this order in a multilayer structure on at least one of a pair of substrates having a transparent electrode film, the substrate are so opposed with a predetermined spacing that the transparent electrode films on the respective substrates are opposed, a liquid crystal is sealed in the space between the substrates. In such a liquid crystal display cell, (i) the transparent coating film is made of a matrix (A) and ion-adsorptive inorganic oxide particles (B), (ii) the mean particle size of the ion-adsorptive inorganic oxide particles ranges from 1 to 50 nm, (iii) the mean surface roughness of the alignment film is 7 nm or less, and (iv) the liquid crystal is a ferroelectric liquid crystal or an anti-ferroelectric liquid crystal.</p> |
