An improved ink jet recording element is disclosed comprising, in order, a support, and, on at least one side of said support, a first ink receiving layer comprising a binder, a main ink-absorptive pigment, and pseudo-boehmite in an amount of 1 to 30 % by weight versus said main pigment, and a second ink receiving layer having a haze value of at most 45 %, and comprising a binder and a cationic substance consisting of particles with an average agglomerated particle size smaller than 500 nm.
