PURPOSE: A water quality monitoring method using algae, particularly closterium ehrenbergii, is provided, thereby on-line monitoring water contamination and quantitatively analyzing the level of water contamination. CONSTITUTION: A water quality monitoring method using algae comprises the steps of: collecting a water sample; preparing a testing solution containing photosynthetic algae; mixing the water sample with the testing solution; lighting the mixture thereof and the testing solution; measuring the fluorescence intensity of the each testing solution and mixture; comparing the measured fluorescence intensity; and estimating the water contamination based on the comparison result, wherein the photosynthetic algae comprises Closterium ehrenbergii.
