PURPOSE: A system for reducing smoke using EGR(Exhaust Gas Recirculation) control and a method for controlling the same are provided to improve the commercial value and consumer satisfaction by reducing the generation of smoke. CONSTITUTION: An engine rpm sensor(11) senses the rpm of an engine(10). An intake air pressure sensor(12) senses the pressure state of the intake air supplied to the engine. A gear position sensor(15) decides the gear position of a vehicle. An ECU(Engine Control Unit,16) turns off an EGR valve(17) for a specific time if a gear is in the neutral position, the engine rpm is higher than a reference value, and the intake air pressure is lower than a pre-determined value. Thus, the emission of the white smoke discharged due to no-load rapid acceleration is reduced.
