PURPOSE: A method for controlling the idle of an engine of a vehicle is provided to prevent the surge in the idle of an engine by learning and memorizing the surge phenomenon. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling the idle of an engine of a vehicle comprises the steps of detecting the surge occurring in the idle of an engine(S312), checking the cylinder in which the detected surge occurs(S314), detecting the air-fuel ratio of the cylinder in which the surge occurs(S316), calculating a difference between the detected air-fuel ratio and a pre-determined air-fuel ratio(S318), and performing air-fuel ratio controlling if the calculated difference satisfies the surge control condition(S322).
