PURPOSE: A system and a method for managing fault about network elements are provided to distribute loads generated when mapping source fault information to reference fault information by mapping source fault information of the network element to reference fault information by a fault mapping table in a device interworking unit or a management server. CONSTITUTION: Device interworking units(22a-22n) directly transmit source fault information collected from network elements(23a-23n) to a management server(21) according to a mapping flag value of a fault mapping table. The management server(21) checks a mapping execution flag of fault information transmitted from the device interworking units(22a-22n). If fault information is reference fault information, the management server(21) stores and manages reference fault information in a DB(24) or informs reference fault information to an operator. If fault information is source fault information, the management server(21) maps source fault information to reference fault information by the fault mapping table, and stores and manages reference fault information in the DB(24) or informs reference fault information to the operator.
