PURPOSE: A method for automatically limiting the speed of a vehicle is provided to automatically reduce speed by intercepting fuel in exceeding a permissible speed by measuring speed difference for wheels having a normal tire when a narrow and light spare tire is installed. CONSTITUTION: A method for automatically limiting the speed of a vehicle is composed of steps of computing the boundary velocity of wheels after computing the average speed of wheels in a traveling vehicle(S100,S120); deciding if a spare tire is installed or not by comparing the computed wheel boundary velocity with each real wheel speed(S130); comparing the number of spare tire installing decisions with a predetermined set reference value by counting the number of decisions for installing the spare tire, if installing the spare tire is decided(S140); comparing and deciding a traveling vehicle speed with a limit vehicle speed if the counted numbers is larger than the predetermined set reference value(S150,S160); and outputting a fuel injection control signal if the traveling vehicle speed is over the limit vehicle speed(S170). Therefore, the method for automatically limiting the speed of the vehicle prevents traffic accidents caused by an over-speed and reduces additional cost by embodying as a software without an additional sensor or an actuator.
