PURPOSE: An impact-absorbing type steering system of a vehicle is provided to prevent driver's chest from being getting injured by moving a steering wheel away from a driver by the impact applied to the vehicle regardless the direction of the impact force applied to the steering wheel. CONSTITUTION: An impact-absorbing type steering system of a vehicle comprises an upper shaft(1) seated in an upper tube fixed to a dash board through a bracket and combined to a steering wheel; a lower shaft(2) seated in a lower tube to the dash board through the bracket and connected to a gearbox converting the rotational force of the steering wheel; and a moving unit disposed between the shafts. The moving unit generates gas by a working signal of an air bag and moves the upper shaft toward the lower shaft. Thus, the steering wheel is moved away from a driver and an injury in the driver's chest is prevented.
