Steering device for a vehicle

A steering device for a motor vehicle has a fixed steering wheel with touch-sensitive sensors around the rim which detect the position and movement of the driver's hands, generating electrical or electronic signals. These are converted into steering signals for the control of the steerable wheels. A steering device for a motor vehicle comprises a fixed steering wheel with an integrated evaluation unit for the generation of electrical or electronic signals and a drive to operate the steerable wheels on the basis of these signals. The evaluation unit comprises touch-sensitive sensors arranged around the rim of the wheel which detect the position or movement of the hands and generate electrical/electronic signals corresponding to these. An electronic unit receives the signals and converts them into a steering signal.
