METHOD FOR SIMPLIFYING MESH BY NONUNIFORM SPACE DIVISION

PURPOSE: A method for simplifying a mesh by a nonuniform space division is provided to realize a simplified mesh of high quality with conserving a form of an initial mesh by dividing a space with considering curvatures. CONSTITUTION: Curvatures of all vertexes constructing a mesh are calculated. The vertexes are aligned in order of large to small size by using the calculated curvatures for forming a vertex weighted list. A curvature tree is formed while dividing a space by using the formed vertex weighted list. A plurality of simplification target cells are searched for in the formed curvature tree. A plurality of simplification candidate edges less affecting on a form of the mesh are searched for in the simplification cells. The retrieved edges are simplified in order.
