PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling a door lock using a photoelectric device are provided to control remotely the door lock by using the photoelectric device such as an infrared LED. CONSTITUTION: A door lock control unit(50) includes a key pad(51) and a controller(52). The key pad is used for controlling an on/off operation of a door lock and including a plurality of buttons for setting up passwords. The controller is used for controlling the door lock according to an input of the key pad. The key pad is formed with a door button(55), a password storage button(56), and a plurality of number buttons(57,58) in order to set up the passwords. The controller includes a microprocessor(70), a pulse generation portion(71), a photoelectric receiving waveform detection portion(72), a start transmission/reception touch portion(73), a power supply portion(74), an EEPROM(75), a door relay(76), and a speaker(77).
