1291513 Preparing organic phosphonous dichlorides STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO 25 Aug 1970 [22 Sept 1969] 40788/70 Heading C2P Organophosphorous dichlorides of formula R.PCl 2 , wherein R is a radical selected from C 1 -C 4 alkyl, C 2 -C 4 alkenyl, phenyl, naphthyl, styryl, and substituted derivatives thereof are obtained by reacting PCl 3 and a hydrocarbon or substituted hydrocarbon selected from a C 1 -C 4 alkane, a C 2 -C 4 alkene, benzene, naphthalene, styrene, or substituted derivative thereof, in the presence of a catalytic amount of phosgene at a temperature of at least 350‹ C. Specified substituents on the hydrocarbon group are CN, Cl and F. The process can be carried out batchwise or continuously and is suitably carried out in a thin tube or a tube packed with porcelain rings. Reference is made for comparative purposes to the use of COBr 2 , chlorobenzene, chlorine and oxygen as catalysts in the same reaction. |
