PURPOSE: A control system of an automatic transmission for a vehicle is provided to prevent accidents and sudden acceleration after shifting by stopping the vehicle with shutting off power to the engine driving unit in outputting excessive engine rpm. CONSTITUTION: A control system for an automatic transmission comprises an accelerator position sensor(10) detecting operation of an accelerator pedal; a wheel speed sensor(12) detecting rotation of a wheel; an engine rpm sensor(14) detecting rpm of the engine; a power shutoff unit(16) shutting off power to the engine driving unit; an alarm driving unit(18); and a control unit(20) comparing engine rpm with the reference value if the accelerator pedal is not operated and the wheel is not rotated, and driving the power shut off unit and the alarm driving unit in case of the engine rpm to be over the reference value. The engine is stopped, and the abnormal state is warned by detecting abnormal state of engine rpm before starting. Thus, sudden acceleration or accident is prevented.
