PURPOSE: A device for purifying exhaust gas is provided to meet the regulation on the SULEV(Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle) at a low cost by improving purification efficiency and to prepare a sufficient mounting space for CCC(Close-Coupled Catalyst) volume. CONSTITUTION: An exhaust manifold(10) is formed by diversifying many runners(11) from the upper portion of a mixing pipe(12). A catalytic unit(13) is formed right below the exhaust manifold. The catalytic unit consists of first to third catalytic cells(14-16). The catalytic cells effectively remove NOx. A non-expansible mat is installed in a portion contacting with the catalytic cells. An expansible mat is formed in a portion contacting with a low-temperature case. Since a mixing zone is removed, the exhaust gas passing through the runners reaches the catalytic unit in a short time. Thus, the catalytic cells approach an activation temperature promptly. Accordingly, noxious elements are removed effectively.
