PORTABLE COMPUTER AND CONTROLLING METHOD THEREOF

PURPOSE: A portable computer and a controlling method thereof are provided to select a power control signal supplied to a power supply and output from a CPU, a chipset, and a power saving signal generator by a single switch. CONSTITUTION: A microcomputer(5) detects whether the power supply(11) is a battery or an adapter. The CPU(1) outputs a normal power ID to be operated at a normal clock. The chipset(3) outputs a power signal for controlling the power supplied to the CPU(1) based on a power mode and a power sort. The switch(7) selectively switches the power control signal provided from the CPU(1) and the chipset(3). The power saving signal generator(9) generates a power saving signal by connecting to an output terminal of the switch(7). The controller controls that the power saving signal is provided to the power supply(11) by selecting the output signal of the switch(7) based on the power sort information provided from the microcomputer(5), and cutting off the output of the switch(7) based on the power saving mode information provided from the microcomputer(5).
