PURPOSE: A method for searching for motion vectors is provided to reduce the amount of operation required for motion vector estimation by adaptively downsizing the search area according to the block movement. CONSTITUTION: Motion vector information at the previous frame to each block of the current frame is extracted and stored. The mean value of motion vectors of neighboring blocks(B1-B4) of a reference block(B0) and an inclination of the mean value are calculated by using the motion vector information of the previous frame. A center and a reduction of a search area are decided by using the inclination of the mean value. A matching block to a final reference block and motion vectors are extracted by executing a complete search in the center of the search area and the reduced search area. |
