PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for transmitting facsimile data in a voice communication system are provided to perform an effective facsimile service by transmitting a call signal through an IWF(Inter Working Function) when a facsimile signal is detected from the call signal. CONSTITUTION: A vocoder(410) encodes and decodes a call signal. An IWF(420) transmits data. The first facsimile signal detecting unit(430) detects a facsimile signal from the received call signal. The second facsimile signal detecting unit(460) detects a facsimile signal from the call signal decoded in the vocoder(410). A control unit(440) generates a switch control signal when the facsimile signal is detected in the first and second facsimile signal detecting units(430,460). The first and second switches(450A,450B) provide the call signal to the vocoder(410) or the IWF(420) according to the switch control signal outputted from the control unit(440).
